Carl Fernbach-Flarsheim was intensely involved in international concrete poetry and intermedia for a decade that began in the late 1950s notably with influences from the New Bauhaus School of Design in Chicago, and continued through the early 1970s. His exchanges with John Cage, Ian Hamilton Findlay, Dick Higgins, Jackson MacLow, Mary Ellen Solts, and others proved his many vanguard interactions. Poet/artist, and teacher, Fernbach-Flarsheim’s contributions included curating significant exhibitions, including the first major Concrete Poetry exhibition in North America. His contributions continued for a decade, and his work is represented in many anthologies of the period.
